About Sydney

Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, is a high energy and lively city. It is a diverse, multi-cultural city where students have the opportunity to explore both inside and outside the classroom.

The Campus

Australian Catholic University (ACU) consists of seven campuses spread out across the country. The North Sydney and Strathfield campuses together have more than 10,000 students, including over 1,400 international students. ACU is Australia's leading Catholic university and is supported by more than 2,000 years of Catholic intellectual tradition. As a member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities, ACU is devoted to communicating truth in every field of knowledge through teaching and research, as well as promoting the dignity of all people and the common good.

Students will have a comprehensive orientation upon arrival at ACU. Information regarding course registration, student safety, sports clubs and societies, student health, library services, etc. will be provided. Students will also be given a city and campus tour.

ACU has a variety of courses in which students can enroll. Students must be academically engaged four days a week.  All students have the opportunity to participate in a for-credit internship (3 credits) in addition to taking three four credit courses. Should students not wish to participate in an internship, they may elect to register for four courses, for a total of sixteen credits. All Dolan School of Business students who enroll in the internship are required to take Business Ethics as one of the three courses they register for as part of their program.

The typical semester at ACU runs from July - November (Fall semester) and from February - June (Spring semester).

ACU will publish their courses prior to the start of the semester; however the time codes associated with the courses will not be released until orientation. After students are approved to study abroad with ACU by Fairfield University, students will submit pre-registration list which will be forwarded to ACU. Students will finalize their courses during orientation.  A database of all courses approved by Fairfield University department chairs can be found here: Approved Courses

Students who participate on this program will receive a Fairfield transcript and letter grades upon successful completion from their semester abroad.

An International Internship is a unique opportunity that will allow the student to develop their professional skills for the working world. The Internship gives students a chance to experience how business is conducted first-hand in another country and an understanding of a new culture and society. The primary goal of an intern will be to continually seek to learn new skills and develop themselves as both individuals and as professional employees.  For more information about an internship while studying abroad please visit here.

Service/Community Engagement
ACU has a variety of community engagement and service opportunities for students while they are abroad. Click here to view: Community + Service Engagement

Students will live in fully furnished apartments in Sydney and are located 25-45 minute train ride from campus and their internship placement location (where applicable). Students may request to be placed with one other student on the Fairfield program. Students are placed in a twin room (a bedroom with a roommate) in a 2 bedroom, 4 person apartment. Students will be provided with Wi-Fi, cooking utensils, crockery, linens, a pillow and towel upon arrival.
