Faculty Led Programs are an opportunity to bring the classroom to you beyond the campus borders! What's better for learning about the American Writers who used Italy as their "backdrop" in Florence, Italy for 10 days in the summer? Over the summer our Galway location hosts our “Drugs and Behavior” faculty led and our Nursing, Communication and Health Studies comparative Palliative Care team taught interdisciplinary course travels to Ireland or Italy each summer.  Keep visiting this site as programs are regularly added and available to apply to.

  • To all freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors depending on the level of instruction.
  • To Fairfield and Non Fairfield/Visiting students whom are in good academic and social standing at their home institution with a grade point average of a least a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
  • To students 18 years of age or older at time of departure.
  • To Students with a passport valid for at least six (6) months after return date.
  • To Students who complete all mandatory pre-departure orientations.

Spring Break 2025 Immersion for Spring 2025 6-Week Course

This faculty-led 3-credit Management and Business elective will begin online at Fairfield University during the first half of the semester and then conclude in Florence, Italy, for seven days during Spring Break 2025. Over the course of six weeks, students will read material and take an exam on family business concepts online prior to venturing abroad, where they will examine firsthand the nature of Italian family businesses. The program fee will include roundtrip airfare from JFK, 7 nights of accommodations, all onsite transportation for itinerary activities and entrance fee to program sites. Deadline to apply is June 15th.

COMM 4328/5328 Palliative Care Communication: USA & Italy 
May 24-31, 2025

Palliative Care Communication: USA & Italy, is an interdisciplinary, intercultural, course that applies a bifocal, communication and health care, lens, to the study of palliative care. COMM 4328 is intended to explore this relatively new area of health care delivery (quality of life vs. cure) and the critical role communication plays in accomplishing the interdependent goals of providers, patients, and families in the USA and Italy. Spend  a week in Florence, Italy earning three credits while participating in a unique educational opportunity with our University Partner, FUA - Florence University of the Arts lead by Professors Pagano and O'Shea!  This exciting 4-week hybrid course (3-weeks asynchronous online and 1-week in Italy Face-to-Face) course is open to; BSN; Communication/PR majors/minors; BPH majors/minors; Health Studies minors (Elective 2); Health Professions students; and Social Work undergraduates; as well as Communication, Nursing, MPA, Social Work graduate students who are interested in exploring palliative care communication from intercultural (USA & Italy) and interdisciplinary (nursing and communication) perspectives. 
 
BIOL 2262 - Tropical Marine Biology

May 25-May 31, 2025

A true immersive experience where students will live on the campus of a research station for 6 nights, spending their days using field study methods to study the ecosystem of Bimini Island! This course, held on the Bimini Biological Field Station, will introduce students to a variety of tropical marine ecosystems surrounding South Bimini, Bahamas. Students will receive in-class instruction regarding each ecosystem and the field methods used to study and quantify species in each location. Students will participate in field trips to each ecosystem and use the field methods. Prerequisites: BIOL 1171, 1172, 1173; BIOL 1078, Introduction to Marine Science is preferred.
