CIEE Summer South African Studies in Cape Town, South Africa
Don’t just watch history happen; become a part of it. In Cape Town with CIEE, you’ll witness and take part in the complex process of transformation occurring in South Africa. During courses, community engagement activities, excursions, and more, you’ll trace the impact of colonialism on the indigenous peoples; examine the emergence and significance of apartheid; and explore the role this fascinating country’s history continues to have on society today. If you’ve ever heard Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Grammy award winning male a cappella group from South Africa, you may have an idea of what’s in store: a transformative experience with a people whose beauty and power in the face of struggle will give you the chills.

Study abroad in Cape Town and you’ll:logo
  • Live with a South African family or University of Cape Town students
  • Begin your study of the Afrikaans language
  • Play traditional instruments like the gourd bow and maskanda guitar
  • Dance the isicathulo and other culturally important dances
